Rosalyn Burton Ruffner 1941-2023

Dr. Rosalyn Burton Ruffner, 82, of Grayson, KY, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023. She was born January 7, 1941, in Vincennes, IN. A daughter of the late Richard and Geneva Burton of Grayson, KY.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Dr.

Kail Daniel Ruffner, one son, K. Daniel (Lori) Ruffner, West Chester, OH, and a daughter Dr. Kari Shields, of Grayson, KY, a brother Dr.

Richard (Ann) Burton of Coralville, IA, three grandchildren, granddaughter Kate Carter of Columbus, OH, grandson Konnor Shields and granddaughter Shelby Shields, of Grayson, KY; nieces and several cousins.

Throughout her life, she was very active in the church. Being the daughter and wife of a minister she sang in the choirs, taught Sunday school, a youth leader, and played the piano.

For over 30 years she was the church pianist at Antioch Christian Church, Greenup, KY.

In the last months of her life, she attended First Church of Christ, Grayson, KY, as health allowed.

She was a 1958 graduate of Angola High School in Indiana. She graduated from The Cincinnati Bible Seminary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962.

She graduated from Indiana University with a Master of Science in Education in 1978, and from the University of Kentucky with a Doctor of Education in 1990.

During her doctoral work, she was awarded the Dr. George Denamark Award from the University of Kentucky. She was a professor and coordinator of student teaching in the Keeran School of Education at Kentucky Christian University for 21 years.

During her career, her most satisfying experience was the placement of 527 student teachers in area schools. She was honored at her retirement in 2005 being named the honorable and distinguished rank of Emeritus Professor of Education, the Presidents Award for Distinguished Service to Kentucky Christian University, and the Lusby Award, the universities highest tribute.

In her professional career and in retirement, she served on the Boards of the Carter County Kentucky Library, and Sarah's Place Women's Resource Center of Sandy Hook, KY.

She also accompanied her husband and delivered Meals-on-Wheels for nearly 20 years.

Grayson KY, 41143, and to the Keeran School of Education, Kentucky Christian University, 100 Academic Pkwy, Grayson KY, 41143.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 14, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, David Fiensy, minister. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
